My son who is in the Air Force was just last week

diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  He had been given

some shots a couple weeks earlier one of which was

the Anthrax Vaccine.

Are there any other military familes out there where

a perfectly healthy young adult takes a Anthrax shot, then is

diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes?

If any one has information that links them together, I am listening.

I didn't came from a military family neither have a family member who's diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I just want to share a bit of information about Anthrax and what is it for.

Anthrax vaccines are vaccines against the infectious disease anthrax. Anthrax is caused by the spore-forming bacterium Bacillus anthracis, that most commonly occurs in wild and domestic mammals. Anthrax also occurs in humans when they are exposed to infected animals, hides, or tissue from infected animals, or when they are directly exposed to B. anthracis. Depending on the route of infection, anthrax disease can occur in three forms: cutaneous, inhalational, and rarely, gastrointestinal.

Hope that can be useful for you! And if you want to know more, try searching more and more or ask your son's doctor more about your son's disease.

My son was also in the Air Force and was given the Anthrax Vaccine series.  He was discharged after two surgeries to his knee .  However, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 28 AFTER being discharged.  He is being told that the diabetes is not related and he cannot get disability for this -- not to mention all the pains in his joints and liver problems.  Please keep me updated if you get any additional information.  I search the web from time to time for more information, but haven't had much luck.  Thank you.

Thank you for your response.  I hope your son is coping well with his Diabetes.  Our son was told that at 25 it is unusual to be diagnosed with

Type 1 and since your son is 28 that is even more out of the norm.  I would be interested in knowing how long it was from his on set of diabetes

in relation to when he was discharged and when he had his last series of shots.

I will keep you posted on some of the links that I have found.

It is nice to know I am not the only mother out there with a lot of questions and not many answers.

How long did it take for your son to get his medical discharge?  They are just now starting that process for my son.

Was he able to get a medical retirement  or just a medical discharge?  What percentage rate did he receive?

If I am asking to many questions, I apologize, we just don't know what to expect and my son wants to fight the review

board to stay in the Air Force.

Thanks for you time and any info or advise on the discharge process will be helpful as well.

I don't know if you have found information to help your sons or not. I am the proud wife of a former Naval Aviator. My husband was diagnosed with Type 1 in Nov 05, weeks before his 31st birthday. As a result, he can no longer fly, military or civilian, as a profession, and the Navy is currently in the process of trying to strip him of his retirement and benefits. He was never given an option to remain active in a non-flying status. I do know that there are Type 1 Diabetics serving as active duty members or other branches of the military (Army and Air Force). Some are even deployed. I am thoroughly disgusted with the way the military is treating this especially when there is the possibility that vaccines they mandated may have caused the onset of Type 1 in my husband and others like your sons. If you simply google "anthrax + Type 1" you'll come up with a slew of research showing a potential connection. No one can prove with 100% certainty that the anthrax vaccine triggers diabetes but the evidence is strong enough that I don't think they can ignore it. My husband would have done anything to remain active duty. We were so shocked at the time of his diagnosis and realizing his dreams of flying were over, that we didn't fight it then and I wish that we had. Now we are up against the Navy fighting for what my husband deserves - his retirement. They are basically saying that his is no longer as disabled as when he was first placed on the temporary disabled retiree list (TDRL). As we all know, Type 1 is a lifelong disease that will never go away. The men in our lives will have to deal with it on a daily basis forever. And sadly, the reality is that no matter how well maintained they are, they will suffer complications as a direct result of the Diabetes at some point in their lives.  My husband chose to take care of himself so that he didn't make frequent trips to the ER. He's maintained a healthy A1C. And the Navy is rewarding him by stripping him of his benefits?!?!?

I'm sorry I've ranted far more than I have helped. My head starts spinning every time I sit down and try to figure out how to fight this and win. The next month will provide lots of information but it will most likely be too late for you by then. I would love to hear updates to your son's stories is there are any.

You might want to consider finding a Naturopath or other alternative health practitioner that can put them on a good detox program.  Parents of autistic children that they think are vaccine damaged  are putting their children  on a heavy metal detox program and getting good results.

I'm sure there are practitioners out there that can detox them from the Anthrax vaccine, too.

Where was everyone stationed when they found out they had Type 1? Did everyone received the anthrax shots that came down with Type 1? I was an Air Force pilot and I am in the same situation. I have been through the boards and TDRL's....everything. If you want more information and to get some help, you need to call the Vaccine Healthcare Center at Walter Reed. They will keep track of all the calls and the who, what, where, when....They are working on finding a relationship between the Anthrax vaccine and Type 1. There was three of us at my base (all pilots) that came down with DM, we were all around 29 years old.

My son is stationed in Japan, but was flying to a lot of different countries prior to his onset.

I just got back from vacation, but have told him to contact the Vaccine Center at Watler Reed.

Where are you stationed?  Are you still in the Air Force?

Did you have Ketoacidosis with your diagnosis?

My son is just now going through the Medical Board process.

He doesn't know what to expect, but does not think the Temporary Disability is not  the route to go.

Do you know how far apart your Anthrax vaccinations were given?

If you have any helpful hints on how he can fight to stay in, let me know.

We are willing to listen to any one who has or is going through the same thing he is.

Thanks,

Airforce Mom

Hello to all moms with Type I diabetic sons.  I just entered this forum, and my son is a Type I, although he was young when diagnosed.

I am also a natural health practitioner, and I would encourage you to definately get on a natural diet, cleansing and building program, as

this can be reversed.  The sooner your sons can support their immune system, the easier it is.  In early diagnosis, there is still beta cells producing insulin, they call it the "honeymoon stage".  Niacinimide is know to help with this process, and raw food is also helpful.  The less sugar and carbs eaten, the less insulin the body must produce.  If you'd like more support or coaching on this, feel free to email me @ vibranthealtcoach@telus.net.

Also, Michale Murray N.D. has a great book call How to prevent and treat Diabetes, and Gabriel Cousens is on the job of reversing Type I and II Diabetes.

So there is hope, and vaccinations assault our immune system, activating it.  If your sons had "strong constitutional" immune systems, it is a higher chance of Type I because it is the immune system attacking itself, so in this case of vaccines, it isn't the greatest.

Personally, I did not vaccinate my son, nor feed him dairy or wheat, but I did get an RH shot during my 5th month of pregnancy because my blood type

did not match my husbands.  I wasn't educated and aware enough at the time to refuse this shot, so this is the only possiblity I can think of for my son getting Type I Diabetes.  It is quite the journey.

Remember, there is hope, and diet plays a huge roll.

I wish you luck in a fair settlement from the military. It is sad they do not take responsibility for this type of "problem".

Feel Vibrant and Alive...In Record Time,

Annette

Yep, it happened to me, too.  I was stationed in Japan at the time, but we were deployed to the Persian Gulf (I was in the Navy).  I received both the Smallpox and Anthrax vaccines about a month before I was diagnosed.  I was 24 (woman).  They misdiagnosed me first as a type 2 because they thought I was too old for type 1 (despite the fact that I had absolutely no characteristics of a type 2).  Shows how much most doctors know about diabetes.

I'm glad to hear about the call to Walter Reed.  I'll definitely be trying to figure that out...does anyone have the information on how to do that?

Thank you!

Although my son has not yet contacted Walter Reed, once I have more information, I will pass it along.

Are you still in the Navy?  My son is just now going through the Med Boards and he is still in Japan.

Do you have the insulin pump?  He is wanting to get that, but there is not an Endo Dr. at the Yakota base.

I have been given a name of an  Endo Dr. with the Air Force that I plan to see if he will answer some questions.

I don't know if I expect him to be of much help, but I do hope he can lead me in the right direction

with some of my questions.

I will be back in touch after I have more info about Walter Reed.

Thanks.

Hi airforce mom, and other's in this group.

I feel for you and the journey you have embarked upon with this Type I diabetes scenario.

My son has been a Type I for 7 years, and he is using the insulin pump.  I am a natural health practitioner,

and if I can support you or answer any questions you may have from my experience, I would be happy to.

There are many natural health tips that can support your children in adapting to their journey, and the sooner after diagnosis,

the better.  Are your children albeit adult children, still in the "honeymoon" stage of the dis-ease?

Offering my support,

Annette

Annette,

I do believe he is still in the "honeymoon stage".   I am just now learning the terminology for Diabetes.

He was Diagnosed in March, although we look back now and see he had symptoms

last December when he was on leave at Christmas.

I appreciate your advise and any healthful information that you have.

To NavyGirl,

The Vaccine Center at the Walter Reed Hospital is doing a study on the possible

link between vaccines and Type 1 Diabetes in the Military.

The phone number to call is 202-782-0411, 8-4pm Eastern Time.

Please explain why you are calling and this desk can get you in touch

with one of the Nurses.

Good Luck and hopefully your information will be useful to them.
