I have always had a problem with constipation.  I have only been on the protein type diet for two days and have noticed although I am not constipated (my version is hard stools) I have seen a bit softer stools but a lot less elimination.  Is this because possibly I am eating less?  I use to rely heavily on fruits and fiber to help and was wondering why there are no fruits on this diet especially since you are eating so much protein.  What are probiotics and how would they help?  How many bowl movements should I be having a day.  One of the main reasons I began this diet was because of my struggle with constipation.  I have always been a protein eater and low carb.  How long should it be until I can experience healthy bowl movements?   Thank you for your help.   Carol

Hello Carol,

Probiotics are benefitial bacteria that reside in our digetive tract and especially the colon.  Have proper amounts of the benefitial bacteria is of utmost importance when challenged with constipation.  I would also make sure to not overconsume foods, drink enough water, reduce stress, and use a stool to prop up your feet to emulate the natural squatting position while having a bowel movement.

Generally speaking most individuals do best with 2-3 bowel movements per day.  Remember that your colon health is a trained release so it may take a bit of time to retrain the colon to get to a healthy movement.

Thank you Glen.  It is really helpful to be able to ask these questions.  I will be patient and look into the probiotics.  Is there any one in particular that you would recommend?

Carol

Hello Carol,

I personally use one called lacto-s-plus but it is only available through practitioners but I had for a short time used Dr. Mercola's probiotic plus with success also.  Many other members of the forum also had found success with the probiotic plus.

I do have another question.  I am about two weeks into my eating plan and once in awhile I find myself hungry inbetween meals.  If I were to have a snack what should I eat.  I also am having a difficult time giving up my one cup of decaf coffee in the morning.  Is there any way around this.

Hello Carol,

I would have just a bite of protein with a small stalk of celery and nut butter or nuts.  Just try to still maintain your macronutriets with your snack when needed.

Instead of the coffee try some hot water, cream, nutmeg, and cinnamon.

Before starting the protein plan, I had 2-3 movements a day. Now, it't barely one and a struggle. I am not used to being constipated and I am following the plan and drinking plenty of water.  Yes, I take the Complete Probiotics, I'm a regular exerciser and I also use a Ceragem ThermoMassage bed.

I'm concerned about this constipation and tempted to go back to using some more high water fruits and more variety of veggies.

Can you help?

Sharon

Hi Sharon,

I would recommend adding some of the part 3 fruits at the end of your meal from the meal plan.  Your meal plan does mention that you can use other veggies other than the recommended six in the part 2 of the meal plan so feel free.

Hello carol to end your constipation I would reccomend you begin your day with mercola complete probiotic, then magnesium on a empty stomach. if your a protein type take only a low dose. Before or after eating breafast lie down and meditate for 10-30 min. While meditating breath deeply and slowly. The above steps should produce a morning bowel movement.

The correct the problem offically you must eat right for your metabolic type, if you eat more carbs than your body can tolerate it will cause constipation.  Start out with a little bit of carbs and increase each meal untill you get a headacne, at that point lower arb intake untill headacne does not appear. Limit urself to one serving of animal products per meal.   U can also try metabolic typing specific enzymes and multi.

I've learned that there is one thing even more important that diet and suppliment for your health. Thats something is ENERGY.  Also meditate as often as possible as well as learn enegy bulding exercises will help combat the problem. Good luck

Carol,

I don;tknow if this will help you but it helps me a lot. I use Spirulina powder in my green drink every morning. Usually 2tbs. Keeps me very regular and eliminates the hard stool.
