What are the benefits of juicing?

When you juice your vegetables you are creating a concentrated raw vitamin, mineral, and enzyme rich food source that you would not be able to ingest if you were attempting to eat the same quantity of vegetables.  Most individuals that make their own fresh vegetable juice find that it makes a significant impact on their overall health and wellness.  I would like to add that different metabolic types would juice in different ways.  For a much more detailed overview of the benefits of juicing visit www.mercola.com and search juicing or visit http://www.mercola.com/nutritionplan/juicing.htm .

Good Health,

Glen ND

Glen,
    I am a Mixed type.
What do you when you said "I would like to add that different metabolic types would juice in different ways"
Do you mean "timing",  "kind of vegetable", "quantity", "amount" or Hmmm...others??

Juicing for mixed types should include vegetables from both the blue and green color coded lists.  A good high yield juice would be to start with celery and cucumber.  As you get comfortable with the process you can start to experiment with a multitude of veggies.  As a mixed type you should not be drinking the juice by itself.  It would be recommended to put a quality raw egg and a tablespoon of raw cream with you juice for the added fat and protein.  This could be used at the beginning of your meal or some mixed types use the juice as a meal replacement at breakfast.

Good Health,

Hello,

Overall the best juicer for the money in my opinion is the Green Star juicer.  I believe it falls in your price range.

 Hi Glen,

I am new to this forum and have just learned I am a mixed type. When you say Good Quality Raw egg, Can I assume  if it states Organic raised, cage free,( but comes from the supermarket) that I am getting Good Quality eggs or do I need to search for something better? I have really enjoyed and have learned so much from reading your ans. and all the comments presented here .  Thank you for your attention.

Hello Judy,

Yes, you are correct with the quality of the egg.  The only way you can improve on that is to get a pastured egg from a coop.  Note that I am saying pastured and not pasteurized.

Thank you for your kind words.

I'm a carb type, and I put 2 raw egg yolks in my juice. Is that okay? I feel fine afterwards. Thanks!

I was looking around for a good juicer to get, making sure that I would be getting the most "bang for my buck."  I have found that the Omega 8003/8005 that Dr. Mercola promotes on this site looks like it does what I want (juice and make nut butter)  for the best price.  I don't know if your opinion has changed over the past year, but if not, why do you recommend the Green Star juicer when Dr. Mercola recommends the Omega juicer?

Hello,

While I personally do not own either I have used both in the office and would share that they both work very well.  I still recommend the Green Star as the Cadillac of juicers but if the investment is too high then I recommend the Omega juicer.

Great! so either way I can't go wrong.

Now what is the story on juicing wheatgrass?  I have read that there are great benefits from juicing wheat grass, but it is rarely even mentioned on Dr. Mercola's site.   What can you tell me about the healthfulness of wheat grass?

Hello,

You can juice wheat grass since it does not contain the protein molecule that creates the gluten challenges while in the grass form.  This would best be used by Veggie Types and occasionally Mixed Types.

Proponents of wheat grass claim regular ingestion of the plant can

  • improve the digestive system
  • prevent cancer, diabetes and heart disease
  • cure constipation
  • detoxify heavy metals from the bloodstream
  • help make menopause more manageable
  • promote general well-being.

While none of these claims have been substantiated in the scientific literature, there is limited evidence in support of some of these claims.

I've juiced wheat grass, and it is *strong* stuff.    It's considered a superfood, but I dont include it in my normal juicing schedule.  I use normal spinach/celery/cucumber/cabbage and garlic.  For fat, I mix in Coconut Milk, this makes an amazingly delicious drink !

Hi: Glenn,

I have a question:

I use the Darcy juice lists for mixed type vegetable juice and add garlic, ginger, tumeric root and cinnimon.

I usually make about 2 or 3 pints of juice and put in in the fridge.  I use it 2 or 3 times each day by adding a free range egg, and some raw cream plus virgin olive oil.  I take it  about 6 to 8 oz per serving.  I am a mixed type.  I also may have a meat protein and 8 oz of kefier made from raw milk.

My question is how long is the juice still "good" for you.  If I make it at 6:00 PM on Monday, I will use up the last of the third pint of juice about 6:00 PM on Wednesday.  Is that too old should I throw out the 3rd pint and try to make only 2 pints of juice.  How many hours is the juice viable, if put in the fridge, in sealed pint jars, immediately after juicing?

Thanks, Don
