I am interested in Nutritional Typing and was checking out the sample pages on the NT testing. Unfortunately I don't think I could take the test because of the content of the questons. I have been a vegetarian (mostly for ethical reasons) for 29 years (since I was 18). I do eat farm fresh organic eggs (not raw - yet!!) and some dairy if it's in something and I am out. I never eat dairy at home. The way the dairy industry treats cows is one of the worst treatment of any animals.

The sample questions asked about choices I would normally make for dinner for example and all three choices included seafood or meat. Of course I would never choose any of those options. I guess what I really want to know is if there is a way to eat healthfully as a vegetarian even if I am a protein type. Of course I would never choose Whey protein (dairy). Is there another non animal protein powder that is considered healthy? There is NO way I will eat meat but want to be as healthy as possible. I have done pretty good these past 29 years as a vegetarian, by the way. I work out reguarly and eat really well - avoid processed foods, eat NO gluten, no sugar or unhealthy fats. I eat tons of veggies and fruit and have eaten 3 tbs of ground flax seeds every day since I was 30 etc. I do all my cooking with virgin coconut oil. People tell me I look like I am in my early 30's (I am 47). I can't remember the last time I was sick. I was diagnosed with MS when I was 30 and have totally controlled it with diet, exercise and supplements (Vit D being one of them).

As you can see, this is quite the dilemma for me. I have already had a few of my friends ask me why I haven't done the NT yet and why I am still a vegetarian and I need to know what to tell them!!

One last thing - does Dr. Mercola ever recommend Hemp hearts? I have read that they are the perfect balance of Omega 3's and 6's.

Are all protein types insulin resistant???? Is it really fast oxidation or does that really mean insulin resistance??? I'm a protein type and when i first started eating healthy i could only tolerate 1 or 2 green beans at once, more than that would cause headacne, and weakness. As i get healthier I can tolerate more and more carbs. Also i use to get low blood sugar problems 3 hours after eating which is normla for a protein type with fast oxidation. My question is, is metabolic typing based on disease states in the body??? Long ago our ancestors didnt always have access to food. They had to go long hours and sometimes even days without food so our body has a built in mechanism to deal with that. A protein type in my opinion means that you have health problems that prevent the body from working properly. For example if you can burn fat effiently than you wont suffer from low blood sugar becuase after the carbs are burned ur body switches to fat. Also i learned that stress is what caused fast oxidation. If u lower ur stress and or meditate after eating a lot of carbs u will be fine even if ur a protein type.

difference between the fat in an egg from a hen that has been feed non gmo corn and acow

Can someone explain to me the difference between the fat in an egg from a hen that has been feed non gmo organic corn

feed the fat in the feedlot is undesirable. This is probably a naive question but I don't know how the conversion process differs.

Snacking (for protein type)

I recently took the NT test - turns out I'm a protein type.
Brain health is an often overlooked, but vitally important issue in growing children. Now our brains are made up of about 60% fat so it makes sense we need to feed our brains with good fats! The best whole food sources of fat are nuts, seeds, avocados and my favourite flaxseed oil. Fish oil is also a really popular source of omega-3 fatty acids, but cos I’m a fruit and veggie fan I’m going for flax!

Now the trick with flaxseed oil is to keep it refrigerated and to use it within 6 weeks. Why you ask? Well flaxseed oil, also known as linseed oil, is a poly-unsaturated fat and will begin to oxidize when it’s exposed to light and air. Flaxseed oil has a strong nutty flavor, so with kids it’s sometimes easier to hide it in a smoothie or yoghurt. Of course you can also get the straight flaxseeds, ground flaxseed, and even LSA which is a mix of linseed, sunflower seeds and almonds – very yummo on breaky cereals.

Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) oil provides the body with both omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, and has been linked to improving memory and aiding learning. Omega-3 and 6 has also been linked to preventing depression. The omega-3 fatty acid is called alpha-linolenic acid which is a biologic precursor to omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which means it not only supports brain health, it has also been linked to cardiovascular health as well, so you can see why flaxseed oil or flaxseed meal is a great addition to everyone’s eating plan!

Studies are revealing that there may also be a connection between low omega-3 intake and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), learning disorders, behavioral problems and hyperactivity.

Check out this interesting link http://www.addadhdadvances.com/efa-depression.html

Now to nuts! My favo nuts are; walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts (just three brazil nuts provides the daily requirements of selenium, which is a potent antioxidant linked to preventing cardiovascular disease), pecans and the good old Ozzie macadamia nut!

If there is a nut allergy look into alternatives like tahini (sesame seed spread), flax, pepitas and sunflower seeds. Everyone is different though, so if there is any allergy its worth seeking professional advice!

So to give your kids the best head start for brain health go for foods rich in essential fatty acids: nuts, seeds, flax and the good old avo!

WHERE CAN I FIND RECIPES???

Please let me know where I can find recipes for protein types.

If a naturopath on here could please answer these questions, I'd be grateful. And even if you're not a naturopath, but you've got some advice, I'm all ears.

I took the nutritional typing test awhile back, and I don't have any records of what the meal plans or anything were (I wasn't prepared for such a radical change in diet at the time, and I don't know where all that stuff went now). My question is: How do I recall the information given to me after I completed the test via the website? I don't want to take the damn test all over again.

The next question is this: I've had problems with gallstones for nearly two years now (no major attacks in the last year and a half). I want to know how likely it is that I'd have to get surgery to remove the gallbladder? Can it really be habilitated if it's filled with multiple small stones (or at least it was a year ago)? It still gives me pain if I eat too much or don't eat good food, or I'm overtired and dehydrated all at once. I know that should never happen, but it's easy to do if I only get 5 hours of sleep, then drink coffee to keep me "awake", then eat not-so-great food during the day.

Plus, how do I find out if I actually have a gluten sensitivity? I'm pretty sure I'm not a celiac: I can eat bread or pasta without feeling bloated or gassy, but Chinese food (prob. the MSGs) always gives me problems. The thing is, I can't tell if it's the fat or sugar consumed with the gluten-containing grains that causes my frequent post-dinner indigestion.

I am seeing a naturopath, but he's got me on a very different program. I'm on this "detox diet" right now for a month, and then an adrenal-rebuilding diet to restore my sleep-waking cycle. My current detox diet consists of fruit with eggs and sausages or bacon in the morning (although I normally cut out the sausage b/c it gives me gas), then a snack of fruit, then a wrap with a piece of fruit for lunch, then another fruit snack, and then dinner is chicken or fish with a little bit of rice and some salad. Also, I'm taking a prescribed dosage of liver pills ? (the brand name escapes me) and acidophilus pills. So far, I've had mixed success with staying on this diet, and I'm having issues with all the damn fruit I'm supposed to eat. I think he's trying to keep my blood sugar from plummeting, but I'm going to have to talk with him and try to work in more veggies and meat. This diet only has one or two servings of meat per day, and maybe two or three servings of veggies. I don't think that's enough, do you? I'm starting to think that seeing this naturopath wasn't such a great idea, although he's really nice and seems like he knows what he's doing. He's much more accepting of "regular food" than Dr. Mercola is, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

My issue with the "protein type" diet is that it requires ingesting a lot of fat (which irritates my gallbladder). I love fat, but I'd like to save my gallbladder if I can. Removing it might only make it harder for me to ingest fats, since fat emulsification is (as I understand it) the primary function of the gallbladder.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Changing my diet.... How to live without grains?????

This sounds kind of hard. Let me introduce myself.

I've been Vegan for a couple of years now. At first, it was such a great experience for me (one my body adjusted) becuase I started out being very malnurished, and eating more fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and some grains really helped me. I was also juicing a lot, taking bee pollen, wheat grass juice, and taking Dr. Schulze's Super Food formula (www.herbdoc.com). Thats really great stuff, by the way.

At any rate, I did not eat any eggs becuase I was worried about Cholesterol, and the excess protein. Since then, I've done some research on these topics. I've found that cholesterol is very needed, and that my problem is most often with the quality of the animal food, rather than the animal food itself. So, I guess some raw eggs would be really good for me, same with raw milk. I've never eaten dairy products in such a long time because they are SO muccous forming... and I guess raw milk is not?

At any rate, I need to start eating a little better. I've been eating too many grains these last few months, and I've not had the green powders and juices that I used to have. I think I conclude that a vegan diet CAN be a VERY healthy one. That is, if you eat a lot of vegetables, and juice (Dr. Schulze, who is a VERY healthy Vegan, says to drink a quart of veg. juice a day, and take 2 TBSP of his Super Food powder a day, and eat mostly raw fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds). Bottom line is that that gets expensive. All the nuts and seeds and everything. There was a time that I felt really good being vegan, but I've just not had the fats lately that I need. And to get them all, can be expensive.

So, I'm thinking of adding raw kefir (made from raw organic milk) to my diet, with 2-4 raw or soft boiled eggs a day, maybe the raw ones in smoothies. But then its the getting rid of grains entirely, that I have a problem with. I mean, grains are high in calories... and I need those. Still, I do have problems with my teeth so I can understand why I should get rid of them. But, Dr. Price did feed people rolls, made with FRESHLY ground wheat berries, not the oxidized stuff I've been making bread and tortilla shells out of.

So, is it not that fresh, sprouted grains are much better than regular oxidized flour?? Or should I just eliminate grains entirely? And if I did that, what would I make tortilla shells out of? Or what about the organic chips that I buy from time to time 1. because I like something crunchy, and it goes on salads, sandwhiches, and in tacos and 2. because I eat it with REALLY hot hot sauce, which is good for me ;). The other thing, bread was in the bible... and its supposed to be good for you. Things like the ezekiel bread, and that. But, I also understand that our split top, junk bread is NOT at all like the bread back then...right?

New chum re nutritional typing

I did the NT test yesterday but lots of the questions which I answered did not reflect my real choices.

to know if it's better than olive oil. I been searching on line with
little success.

I found one article that says that grapeseed
oil isn't good because of a high level of omega 6s and then lots of
articles that say that it's good for you but don't really have much to
back them up.

I like grapeseed oil because it's sustainable (made from the seeds
left over after producing wine), has a high smoke point and neutral
taste...so from a cooking standpoint it's a better choice. The smoke
point for olive oil is much lower (100 degrees or more different) so
you can't sautee or do any high heat applications and olive oil's
strong flavor makes a poor choice for baking, etc., where you need a
neutral oil.

And, then there's all the health benefits that are prescribed to grapeseed extract...many on this site.

Her question is (and now she has me wondering) which is the better choice from a health standpoint...olive oil or grapseed oil?

Thanks for everyone's help!

Elk?

Is elk ok to eat?
I have suffered with bloating and stomach pain for about 30 years every time I eat.

I was assessed as a protein type and have been on the protein plan for about 14 or more days. I am 67 years and 5' 2" and had weighed 118 lbs and lost 2 lbs. I do not feel I need to loose any weight.

The diet seem to help with the bloating and stomah pain for a while but not all together.

My question is, why am I so depressed? Is the restrictive protein diet plan causing my depression? When do I have fresh fruits and vegetables? I do miss my berries and salads. Is home made yogort good for me. I have some in the mornings and blackberries.

In the mid afternoon I get the craving for individually wrapped "Dove Chocolate" and I do have one and it satisfy me until supper.

I thank you for your response in advance ~ Sarah Gingerich

mixed type and mixed up!!!

I just got my type which is mixed type. What do you eat? Breakfast is another big problem, they are hugh. I can't eat that much, I'm use to a bowl of cereal with fruit in morning. That applies also to breakfast. I Southern Europe where I live, that rule will be very difficult to apply. We always start meals with soup or a salad, and that is considered very healthy practice. Moreover, at breakfast it is unthinkable of serving steak... Can you comment on how critical this rule is and if possible offer alternative ways to conform to the protein type diet? I just completed the nutritional typing test and it seems that I am a veggie type. Oddly, pulses (bean and lentils, etc) are excluded from the list of veggie-type foods. What is the reason behind this? I also note that egg yolks should be avoided ... why? (although if eaten raw may be ok?).

Thanks for shedding some light on these matters.

I'm looking for some help with my nutritional needs.

I first took the metabolic typing test a couple of years back and have taken it more recently twice since and my numbers are even worse.

My numbers are as follows:

92% Fast Oxidation

7% Slow Oxidation

24% Sympathetic

62% Parasympathetic

12% Balanced

My whole life I have been very hyper-active and severely underweight no matter how much food I consumed. I recently found out that I have celiac and other food allergies.

My highly allergic "avoid always" foods are dairy in all forms (casein, whey, milk and lactose, etc. so even raw dairy is out), eggs, gluten, wheat and almonds.

I would really like to put a good effort into a metabolic diet as it seems I'm very out of balance but it is thoroughly frustrating that almost all protein meal plans rely heavily on creams, butters, dairy, almond butter and eggs to get the calories needed as I cannot have any of those foods without a response.

What would you recommend I do?

By eliminating dairy products, eggs and almonds it seems like there are just not enough ways for me to meet my caloric needs and stay on target and I'm already underweight. I also cannot obviously have most grains because of the gluten allergy.

Any advice would be of great help...

Does raw cream contain all the same nutrients as raw butter and milk??

Hello I've been trying to research raw cream to figure out what nutrients it contains but I cannot find much on the subject.
