We live in the Piedmont of North Carolina. I am outside everyday and still have a great dark tan even today Nov 10th. In addition I take 2000 units a day of D3 oral pills. Eat a veggie diet, just everything the good doc says to do.

Well guess what got nailed with H1N1 10 days ago and at 53 YO it was as nasty as any flu I ever had. Maybe not as long in duration, but even the wife came down with it 3 days after me. I do come in contact with children weekly as I teach a few days a week in the gym. But again Even with all the vit D all the sun all the exercise all the healthy eating etc. The Virus is all over and its hard not to catch.

I did get a seasonal shot in September but my wife did not. Not sure if that is an issue, but it ruled out seasonal flu when we came down with the nasty cough aches chills fever of 102 and spikes, upset gut and headache. Fatigue now since we are better but woof woof!!

Vitamin D2 vs. D3?

What is the latest update on D2 versus D3? I have read confklicting reports: about half claim that D3 is superior, one says D2 is toxic, while the other half claim that D2 is just as efgfective in small doses.

In recent months I have decreased my dose of hydrocortisone dramatically. I am no longer having major dips as a result of suffering cold upon cold. The swine flu tried to get me, the worst I had was a sore throat for one day (unbelievable for me). During this time I only increased my hydrocortisone by 10 mgs instead of 100 - which is what usually would have happaned had I contracted flu - maybe even with a period of hospitalization until my levels stabilized.

Not only this but my daily dose of hydrocortisone is down to 20mgs from 30 -35 per day. I am no longer taking fludrocortisone. I have also been able to reduce my thyoxin from 100 mcgs day down to 50!!!! My endocrinologist is truly amazed but has warned me not to take my dosages down any further - but I am zinging with energy. I am seriously starting to feel over medicated!!!!

My question is, am I getting enough exposure to make enough D with only 10 minutes on each side if my skin is dark? I tan easily and I already have a pretty good tan and I know the darker you are the longer you need to tan, so I want to know if I am getting enough tanning time to make vitamin D. How can I tell and how do I gauge the length of time as I continue to tan 2 to 3 times a week. Dr. Mercola never really addresses this in any of his videos. All he keeps saying is 10 minutes. Does everyone, regardless of skin type and time spent tanning, only need 10 minutes per side 2 to 3 times a week? Please help.

A new Vitamin D product is sold at Mercola.com, promising some great advantages:

"Quite simply, the D3 in Sunshine Mist Vitamin D Spray comes in a form your body can start putting to use immediately.*

In short, you spray this fine-mist formula into your mouth, swallow, and the essential nutrients are delivered to your circulatory system, tissues and cells quickly.*

But wait -- there's even more...

The tiny nanodroplets™ in each spray are designed to release the vitamin D3 in a steady, time-controlled manner, ensuring a longer-term benefit and boosting efficiency even further*.

Needless to say, when you combine the Sunshine Mist Vitamin D Spray time-release mechanism with its rapid absorption, you get one incredible product. A product that, in my opinion, is clearly superior to any vitamin D3 pill, tablet, capsule, gelcap, or liquid on the market today. "

Now my question is: where can I see the studies and clinical trials that show these advantages? For example looking at time sensitve blood levels after VitD supplementation, and comparing it to other VitD supplements such as pills or tablets...

Thanks for you help!

Sunny greetings from Munich,

I especially appreciate the emphasis on the benefits of pure sunshine. My whole life I have always said out loud how much better I feel after being in the sun for awhile. We live in Oregon and so I would like to supplement my four young boys with Vitamin D, especially in the Fall and Winter. After reading Dr. Mercola's recommendations I hurriedly went out to buy the Cod Liver Oil. (lemon flavored mind you!)
