I am 77 all medical tests show no big problems whatsoever, however i have two small problems, excessive gass and a PERMANENT mild head cold, tried everything I can think of nothing works, very annoying because I exercise often and am very fit, any suggestions would be very much appreciated
You may want to consider Probiotics to balance gut flora and digestive enzymes to possibly clear congestion.
You might want to try natural keifer, which contains about 80 live, good, probotic cultures. You can find it at natural food stores or make it yourself from raw milk and add keifer grains. You can locate these keifer grains on the web.. It will make keifer in about 24 hours. You can find the instructions on how to make keifer on the web also.
I drink about a gallon of this culture a week and do not have the problems you mentioned.
I am 66 years old, and feel fine.
Good health, Don
Do you consume dairy ? If so, switch to goat and almond(or rice)milk products.
Hi there, I had these same problems for many years, until I went totally gluten free. Cleared up brain fog, headaches, constant sinus infections and sore throat, chronic fatigue and IBS. I am also lactose intolerant. A good probiotic also helps.
A natural therapist specializing in gut health explained to me that because the digestive system starts at your mouth and nose, anything that irritates the gut can cause inflamation in the nasal cavities and throat.
Hope this helps :)
Hello AussieGirl,
It's WONDERFUL you've been able to heal yourself on a gluten free diet! Congratulations! I have a few questions about your recovery:
1) How long did it take for your symptoms to leave after going gluten free?
2) Are you 100% grain free, or do you eat gluten free grains?
3) Are gluten free oats okay for you?
Hi Sunshinelover,
No I don't mind discussing. It is always helpful to ask questions.
It took many months for my major symptoms to go, but it has also taken years to completely eradicate gluten from my diet. I found I had to work on it as it was too hard to eliminate everything at once. I also had 2 small children to feed and a gluten addicted husband. If it had just been me I think I could have devoted more time and healed quicker. All the family meals that I prepare are now gluten free. The more natural your diet the easier it is!!
I do eat rice and sometimes organic corn flakes. I tried oats for a week and found I could not eat them. I have not come across gluten free oats. I do have a small amount of GF bread.
I am a protein type and have naturally followed that type of diet all my life. I have never been overweight but did loose 3kg that had crept on after my second baby. I had a 3rd baby last year ( 9 yrs after the 2nd) and did not put on any weight except for baby.
I have also discovered that I react quite badly to MSG and some preservatives and addatives ( bad headaches, sore throat and brain fog ) but it is very hard to determine what is causing your body to react when it is reacting all the time. The more irritants you remove, the easier it is.
I do suffer from seasonal hayfever but I can cope with this now. Before going GF it would send me over the edge, spending days hardly moving off the couch with fatigue. This was what pushed me to find an answer as I could hardly care for my 2 babies. The natural therapist did blood, urine and stool samples, checking for anything and everything. the only thing that showed up was the gluten, even though a biopsy for celiac was negative.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more questions and good luck.

Thanks, Aussiegirl!
Your answers and story both helped and inspired me. I'm sure others who read this thread will be encouraged, as well.
My Mother has the same symptoms when she eats MSG. Even though I don't react as strongly, I try my best to avoid it. I agree--the more irritants removed from your diet, the easier it is to figure out what's going on.
I've been gluten free for two months or so, as recommended by my Nurse Practitioner. I've had a few setbacks ("What? Those sausages had bread crumbs in them?!"), but overall I've stuck to it pretty well. I'm living with my parents and siblings, but do my own cooking most of the time, so I haven't had to switch a whole family over. I admire your determination to do so. Adjusting diet can take time and a lot of work, but it's so worth it, eh? I haven't seen dramatic changes with GF yet, but I'm happy to stick with it.
Thanks again, and wish you continued health.

Gluten free for me means avoiding wheat, barley, rye, oats and spelt. This includes products derived from these grains also. So whole wheat bread is not something I would eat.
Hope this late reply can still be useful.
You are obviously doing many thing very well which is why there are no obvious medical issues. What types of supplements do you take? Sometimes, we just don't get adequate nutrition from our food and need supplementation.
I have been using the following supplements for that last 7 years. These supplements promote a gentle cleansing and rejeuvination of your vital organs which naturally eases symptoms by addressing the root cause -- one or more of your vital organs is not functioning at its optimum.
Head colds: Are you still having the head colds? If so, do you have much mucous? What color? These answers can tell a lot about the organ that is compromised.
Gas: How often? Do you have stomach cramping? Can you describe the odor? Again, these external manifestations are really a window to our vital organs and help determine the best course of action.
God bless
