I thoroughly enjoyed "Take Control of Your Health" as well as "Generation XL." I practically devoured them! It is refreshing to hear professionals affirm certain concepts that it seems many of us have known deep down because the fact is that most of us try to listen to our bodies. I especially appreciate the emphasis on the benefits of pure sunshine. My whole life I have always said out loud how much better I feel after being in the sun for awhile. We live in Oregon and so I would like to supplement my four young boys with Vitamin D, especially in the Fall and Winter. After reading Dr. Mercola's recommendations I hurriedly went out to buy the Cod Liver Oil. (lemon flavored mind you!) Boy do I hate to be a "whiner" or "picky" but.... I can't seem to get this stuff down my kids. Would it be appropriate and beneficial if I were to give my boys Dr. Mercola's vitamin D spray instead? If not, any suggestions? Thank you! Allison
Hmm, my thoughts when reading this were 1) talk to your kids about the importance of vitamin d (specifically - have a little lesson for them on it) - kids are more willing to take something when they understand how it's good for their bodies; and 2) you could always add it to their food....
Give your kids some other source of Vitamin D. If you read the bottle, there is VERY LITTLE vitamin D in cod liver oil, but there is a MASSIVE amount of Vitamin A. Vitamin A competes with some of the same sites as Vitamin D, so you actually could be DECREASING their available D by giving them cod liver oil- and possibly overdosing them on A if you are giving them Multivitamins at the same time.
How much easier to just do 2 sprays in their mouth once a day. You could even just do 14 sprays all at once, once a week. Vitamin D is fat soluble and so gets stored for future use. By the way, the 2 sprays is 2000 IU's per day- a dose that is VERY safe for children. And what about YOU. Are you getting YOUR vitamin D too!!
