Hello,
My 62 yr old husband for years has had high LDL & total cholesterol, low HDL, & elevated triglycerides. High risk category. No symptoms.
He has never been on any meds for this, only dietary measures that have worked very quickly when he fully implements them!
We've discovered he is a protein type, so can he have the protein diet as suggested (i.e. some cheese, some butter)? Or should be stay off any saturated fat, and just have lean meat and have no fat dairy until he is in the normal range again? (Is there any cheese that is OK? I've only found full fat). He was on a high carb diet previously, with a reasonable amount of protein.
He is currently on full supplements, but finds it difficult to get on and stay on an exercise program, because of his work. (Long hours trucking)
Thanks very much!
L.
The primary reason that a protein type would have high triglycerides is due to high insulin and not a high fat diet. I would recommend that your husband follow the meal plan as presented but only use the part 1 and 2 foods as the part 3 foods are too high in glycemic levels and will lead to high insulin.
When the lipid profile is out of balance that is generally due to improper nutrition, chronic stress, and/or lack of exercise. With NT your husband is addressing the nutritional aspect if he is following what I have mentioned above.
Full fat cheese is preferred for a protein type and raw is the best.

Hello Glen,
Do you recommend any other forms of raw dairy as a base food nutritional to your clients who are non-allergic?
"In my clinical experience, over 95 percent of patients with elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels respond to a reduced carbohydrate and insulin level correction approach. This is especially true for triglycerides. In over 20 years of practicing medicine, I have never seen an elevated triglyceride level fail to drop in response to a low carbohydrate program."....quoted from Dr. Mercola's health plan.
Well, I guess I am the first! My triglyceride level went up over 30%!! LDL went up 22.99%! Total cholesterol went up 13.779%! Weight went down about 15 pounds, but cholesterol was a train wreck. All this after 2 months on a strictly followed low carb diet. No candy, sweets, fructose, etc.
I have since changed my diet to lower fat, hardly any red meat, and added grains.....with no weight gain!
Any comments?
Regards, Jesse Hubbell
I am also on the same boat - both my LDL and total cholesterol went up and put me in the high category. My total cholesterol went up by 23% with protein diet first for 6 weeks and then on Mixed diet for the next 5 weeks. I am thinking of drastically reducing fats and meats in my diet. I do not wish to be on statin medications for life.
I was on Lipitor for 14 years and that changed 3 years ago when I cut down on meat, hardly any fat except cooking oil and lots of green stuff. My cholesterol came down to normal levels in 3 months time and for the last 3 years I have been off the Lipitor. I do not want to be in that situation agian.
I have sent 4 posts already, but have received no response in over 3 weeks. Something strange is going on out there - many posts by people still remain unanswered.

Ballabh,
I have drastically changed my diet after my test results and will retest near the end of December. I will post my results here. I was a firm believer in no grains bread etc, eating lots of eggs with yolks, good fat, and red meat, especially grass fed. Not anymore. The blood doesn't lie.....does it? I was also told by another expert not associated with this forum that it was impossible for triglycerides to go up when on a protein diet. I am living proof that is not the case.
Jesse
Jesse,
I agree with you - your body will always reply honestly. Listen to what it is trying to tell you, understand the message and make the necessary adjustments.
For the past 3 months, I have been on organ meat (Chicken liver and hearts), high purine meats like chicken thigh and drumstick fillets, and lamb, organic butter, full cream cheese and one can of sardines every day. I was also taking one or two partially cooked eggs on a daily basis, along with atleast 4TSF of coconut oil, 1/4 cup of olive oil and some 12 olives every day. Over a month ago, I took the Forum advice literally and went to buy a slow speed juicer and have been taking veggie juice with one or two raw organic free range eggs every day. About 10 days ago, when I took the blood test, the horror was revealed. The cholesterol went up to the high level, my insulin went up from 6 to 8 having been absent from all grains and sugars (except some occasional small serves of buckwheat at dinner with extra fat, and few pieces of fruits, and ice cream once). I was taking kefir with some bee pollen for 3 weeks almost daily 3 weeks prior to the latest blood test.
The problem I noticed with my latest tests were totally different to what I had noticed earlier with my revised diet 3 years ago, when I did not absent from grains totally - I was having rice or buckwheat every day, 2 pieces of breads, some cereal for breakfast with resins and milk, and 4-5 pieces of fruits every day with a big salad and cooked veggies. I was also taking moderate amount of chicken, and kefir as well as bee pollen every day. And of course, that time no Vitamin D3 supplements and other supplements recommended at Dr M's site. That brought my cholesterol to normal levels, glucose levels were never high for me, and I did not test insulin levels then - so do not know how they were. My BP remained around 135/75 with two medications.
Things are different now with so much changes on the diet and currently I am on some 10 supplements. The results: insulin and cholesterol levels are high, glucose level is marginally lower, BP remains almost the same (around 130/75) and I am still on 2 medications (although I was taking 3 medications 3 months ago. This extra tablet was added in June when I was under a lot of stress as I had two operations in July this year and my BP went up very high).
I was under the impression that things would come back closer to normal levels and the blood test results would be encouraging - this has not happened. Having said that the HDL/total cholesterol levels at 22% and triglycerides/HDL is less than 2 - these are good results as Dr M says. My doctor is not so sure and is advising me to look at the intake of fats, meat and eggs in my diet.
I posted my results and concerns to Glen at the Forum some two weeks ago - so far no answer has come. I have other 4/5 posts that still remain to be responded. And now I notice that my previous posts have disappeared from the site. I do dot know what is happening at that end. There may be a computer problem.
Let us all keep a close watch on how our bodies are reacting and share the information.
Regards,
Jesse:
Could you detail your low-carb diet and mention if the intake was large, moderate or small ?
Ballabh:
Here are my suggestions ! I'm sure they will help you !
Eating liver is not a good idea at all: it is very high in copper and lead, two sources of oxidative stress.
Vitamin D3 brings short-terms benefits but this vitamin bioaccumulates in the body and causes oxidative stress. Stop taking it if you have and take squalene to eliminate it for several months.
Stop the intake of coconut oil. It raises cholesterol in laboratory animals.
Discontinue olive oil too. In a study on rats olive oil gave the shortest lifespan among three other oils (corn, canola and soy oils).
You have blood pressure and it is a serious condition since it means you have atherosclerosis and consequently you are at high risk of heart attack or stroke. You must take every step to lower the blood level of oxidative stress. In addition to the ideas above you must get rid of all the metals you have accumulated along the years through foods, water, and air and because oxidative stress causes free iron accumulation. Take edta orally (it works as well as IV), iodide (but avoid elemental iodine) and keep taking raw veg juice in the morning (especially carrot). Though you will get a drop in your BP in a few months bear in mind that you must keep taking metal chelators everyday because we keep accumulating them and it is no easy task to get them lower. It is a life-long endeavor. However along lower BP you will find out other important health benefits such as better sleep after a while and less neuropathy (restless leg syndrome is a form of neuropathy). Also drop your BP drugs as soon as you can because all drugs cause very high level of oxidative stress, the source of all diseases !
Hi Rose_5-HT,
Pardon me for my use of your User name - your name may be different. Just for the sake of my curiosity, how are you connected with the Forum? Are you a medical professional?
I think your advice makes a lot of sense - I will implement your suggestions gradually. Could you please tell me what is "edta"? I am adding some chlorella in my veggie juice to get rid of heavy metals and toxins, taking 6,000IU of D3 capsules, 6 gms of fish oil, and 150mg Selenium everyday along with other supplements.
You are right I have the RLS, and can't get a good sleep. One thing I have noticed with carrots is that if I continue for sometime, my weight tends to go up. I am not sure whether this is caused by carrot or something else. That is the reason, I have not put carrots in my veggie juice so far. I normally take spinach, celery, cucumber, fennel and cabbage to juice them, then add raw eggs, ground flax, seeds (pumpkin, sunflower or sesame), clove & cinnamon powder, shredded coconut, 1 clove of garlic, coriander leaves and some Celtic salt, and blend them in a blender. Then I add chlorella and olive oil to the juice in a glass before drinking it.
As it is summer in Australia, I will now stop D3 capsules for some months and see how things change when I will be taking my next blood test, may be in 3 months time. At my last blood test 3 weeks ago, my D3 level was 41.3, well short of 50-65 levels recommended by Dr M. That was the reason I continued taking 6,000IU daily. May be now I will stop them.
Kind regards,
Rose,
I don't know exactly what you mean by larege, moderate, or small intake. I ate when I was hungry. Eggs, butter, beef(mostly grassfed), chicken, salad etc. Later adding a small amount of strawberries and real cream....probably too much cream?
Anyway, I recently had my cholesterol levels checked(6wks since the 'TRAIN WRECK" results). I changed my diet and added whole grains with higher fiber, even oatmeal, no egg yolks only egg whites, fewer nuts, fat free milk, no butter, added canola oil, some fish oil supplement, salads, fish, chicken, turkey and almost no beef. Lost about 4-6 lbs.
total cholesterol-226
ldl-165
tryglicerides-119
hdl-38
fasting blood sugar-99
As you can see much better results. Still high, but I am definitely improving.
Beef....it's what's NOT for dinner.
I will miss it.
