I was wondering if I should do a liver & gallbladder cleanse. I've been reading a book about it, but I am not sure if the test would be okay for a protein type like myself. The recommendation, according to the book, is to not have any animal meat, fats, nuts or seeds for one week while in the preperation stage before the elimination.  Is that acceptable for a protein type? They advise fruit, veg, and lots of rice ...ekkks!!

Also, it says to discontinue use of any herbs, vitamins, etc. for the preperation week unless they are absolutely necessary. I was tested recently and discovered that I have adrenal fatigue and am taking hebal supplements. Overall, do you think this cleanse would be beneficial to me?

Thanks,

Melissa

I myself am wondering what Dr. Mercola himself thinks of this. I think you're referring to the liver cleanse with the drinking the olive oil? The theory is that the gallbladder and/or liver have fat deposits, "stones" that can be flushed out with a concoction of olive oil - thus avoiding gallbladde surgery for some, or/and ridding the liver of gallstones and sludge and freeing it up and making it healthier. Having had my gallbladder removed years ago, I have often thought that my liver may contain stones, and have often thought about doing this cleanse myself.

There is definitely argument among professionals and non-professionals as to whether or not this cleanse is real or not. Critics say that in fact what comes out in one's bowel movements after this cleanse is not gallstones, but just olive oil that reacted chemically in your body to produce what LOOKS like gallstones. Then again, proponents of it say that allergies clear up, fatigue lifts and some say they've never felt better.

I really don't know what to think myself. I'd be interested to hear Dr. Mercola's take on this one.

He featured a gall bladder cleanse in one of his articles a long time ago. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/02/13/gall-bladder.aspx.
