Hi, in febuary 2007 I weithed 267, now I weith 178-180. By simply stopping to drink sodas (diet and standard) and eating more and more organic foods. I drink a lest 1 gallon of water everyday and I walk for 1 hour in the morning. I'm 29 and I never felt that good in al my life.
My primary goal was not to loose weith but just stop gaining it. Then I just realised that I was indeed loosing 2-5pounds every weeks without doing that much, It just motivated me to read some books about natural cures and I started to realise what I was really eating, what was good and what was bad and why it was bad for me. A lot of poeple look at the ingrediants and don't have a clue of what they are reading. I see that a lot at the supermarket.
Now I have 1 question about my health and I wish i'm not out of line here. If I am will a moderator just move it to the right section or edit it. After loosing 90pounds I found myself with a lot of loose skin on my upper arms and my belly. It roll over my belt. It's getting enoying to see all the progress I've made in my health and still not liking what I see in the miror. I would like to know if there is some good alternative to surgery.

I am also the same as you, i weighed 300lbs and now I'm a 190+ and what I did before was just stop taking in the sodas, extra snacks, and foods high in fat. Result was that I did loose the pounds but not the extra skin...
I went to the gym and asked some of the gym instructors on how to solve this issue and they told me that all I need to do is work on my muscles. Since during my weight loss "moment" I did not work simultaneously with my muscles. So i did cardio and some weight lifting and in a span of time, the loose skin just starts to vanish. My gym instructor said that the muscle took care of it.
So I suggest you go to the nearest gym and asked the instructors there on how to aid you in your weight loss journey. In my opinion, surgery must always be the last option, (if it's a matter of life and death).

Would swimming be counted as muscle work too? I don't like weights because it triggers my bursitis of the hip. Swimming is much gentler on my joints. But I'm not sure if it's as effective when it comes to toning muscles.

Fist of, you should just start by cutting 1 or 2 things in your alimentation. I've started by avoiding all soda drinks and replace them qith water. I also cut all french fryes. I did not replace the fryes with something else I just don't eat them anymore. As for cuttin all sodas, I've choose to replace the, with water. You'll see by just doing this you will feel much better and you will loose weight. After that will talk about other things you can do.

I definitely agree with m.parent. Try cutting down on things that you think you can manage without slowly... Don't try to go cold turkey because it might cause more problems than benefits. I tried going cold turkey... worked for a week then unconsciously I went back to my old eating habits... Anyway for the bread and milk, try looking for a substitute like eating wheat bread and low-fat milk. Try reducing the consumption until you get used to not having these fattening foods.

As an afternoon snack, I like to replace bread with sweet potatoes or yams and bananas. So I don't take sandwiches, doughnuts or baked goods anymore as a snack. I have no scientific basis for this. It's just a personal preference and I find that my body responds well to these foods. I feel full longer and I have less of an energy drop in the afternoon.
I agree about just drinking water. I've been doing it for years at home. Recently, I've learned to decline sodas and juices at parties, especially iced teas. I feel lighter after a meal, and am actually able to enjoy the different flavors more because they're not doused with sugary drinks!
I have a health issue related to my big weith lost. Since maybe 4-6 mounths my weith has stabylise to 175pounds but now I have skin erruption (red pimples and kyst) on my chest and on my back. I've come to understand that it is all the toxins that were stored in the fat that are coming out. Since I've a long history of bad eating habit I stored a lot of those toxins.
