I get plenty of sunlight already when i exercise outside. I read about the mercola light bulbs and benefits and i ordered them. Today i recieved them and I use it in my room all day long. Is it possible to overdose on these light bulbs??? i've heard they offer all the benefits of the sun including vitamin d production. In that case, lets say for example i stay in my room all day with the light on, will I be at risk for excess vitamin d and or excess sun exposure from these sun simulating lights?????
doubtful, I don't think you can even get a slight tan for being near these all day
I don't think you will get any vitamin d from the light bulbs. Nowhere on the product page for the lightbulbs do they claim that it will produce vitamin d. Also, from what I've read, you cannot overdose on vitamin d if your only source is the sun (or tanning bed). Only when you supplement with vitamin d (orally) do you run the risk of overdoing it. Your body will only produce as much vitamin d as needed, after that vitamin d production will turn off. If you stay in your room all day with the lighs on you will be setting yourself up for deficiancy.

LOL, I dont stay in my room all day wit the lights on, I was just wondering about the light causing excess vitamin d because I already get plenty of vitamin d from food, cod liver oil and sunlight. I read on other websites that the light bulbs can make your body produce vitamin d just like sunlight, thats the reason i was asking if excess use of the lights can be harmful. Thanx for the replys
Hmm. I have also never heard of lighbulbs making vitamin d. Only the tanning beds. But lets say that they do. There has never been a reported toxicity from sunlight- EVER. And there are millions of people who have spent 6 to 8 hours a day in direct sunlight and have never had this problem. Your skin, unlike your digestive tract with D supplements, has a feedback mechanism that prevents D toxicity.
If anything, it would still be likely that you are vitamin d deficient- most people think that they get 'plenty' of sun and find out that they are deficient. In fact a study on people in Hawaii showed that people who got an average of 11 hours of sun a day were STILL deficient!! It's best if you get a vitamin d level. Even if it's just for kicks and giggles. You might end up being surprised.
Oh, and by the way, what foods are you getting 'plenty' of vitamin d from? Unless you are eating 16 oz of fatty fish everyday, then you are NOT getting much of any vitamin D from your food. Also, cod liver oil has almost no vitamin D and TONS of vitamin A. cod liver oil is NOT a recommended supplement as you can EASILY get too much A. ALSO, vitamin A and D use the same receptor sites in the body, so your cod liver oil could actually be MAKING you Vitamin D deficient!!
Get your level checked to be sure!
