Is there anyone out there working with Type 2 diabetes that is on the mixed plan? I am interested to know how it has affected your blood sugars and if you have been able to loose weight or reduce your medications over time on the plan.
Being a diabetic regardless of Type you will still have to watch your carbs. Stick to quality proteins and non-starchy veggies but keeping your carb count low should allow you to bring your blood sugar and excess insulin under control (if you are a Type 2 that is). Keep the foods you eat as low glycemic as you can. If you are tempted to eat a quick acting starch eat it with protein and/or fats to slow down it's impact, but try not to eat them in the first place. Don't be afraid of quality natural fats either. I use real cream and butter and cold-pressed oils--all organic. Everything organic whenever possible. It costs more, but hey, I'm worth it!! (And I feel better too). I've been able to reduce the amount of oral medications I take as a result, fortunately I never had to go on insulin as I started to change my diet as soon as I found out I was diabetic. (sugars over 300, A1c 10.9--now A1c is about 6.0 and just taking metformin now) I try to keep my carb count something like this: Breakfast about 6 grams. Lunch/Dinner about 12 grams each. If I snack I subtract from lunch or dinner. It was tough at first, but once you get used to it you don't miss the carbs. Now I can actually eat at Red Lobster and ignore the cheddar biscuits!
I have tye 2 yet just started the diet and exercise plan. I just took the nutritional type test and was rated a mixed type. I will let you know my progress. Before I knew about the dr Mercola health program I started on my own taking direction from my own doc. I had an a1c of 11 and blood sugars in excess of 300. I have made some progress with blood sugars averaging at 140 yet need to get this down. What I don't like are the many meds I am currently taking. I also am 40 pounds overweight and need to get that down.
