I am trying to maximize my intake of raw dairy. I'm 53 and for the past several years, my fingernails have appeared thin, bendable and curvy/wavy. I'm wondering if this is due to not taking in too much dairy. I did take a blood test and anemia was ruled out. At 47, my DEXA test showed mild osteopenia in my hip. After 25 years of lifting weights and other exercise, I was pretty shocked. I do hope the dairy will help things along..OR is there anything else I can try. Like I said, the appearance of my nails are concerning me.
Sharon
Hi Sharon,
Your protein intake is very important for your nails as well as proper absorption and assimilation in the GI tract. The Complete Probiotics, digestive enzymes and possibly HCL may be beneficial.

Hi Sharon~
Your article is exactly what I have also been wondering about for myself. I'm 36 and also have a low bone Dexa score. I'm wondering if any of the advise from you question has helped? Have you discovered any changes with your fingernails? What is the best way for absorption of calcium?
Healthy cheers,
Jonette
Dear Jonette,
I have had some issues with the protein diet. My LDL went up to 165 (never saw that in my life) so I decided to cut back on certain things. I am cutting back on dairy. No, the diet, including dairy did nothing for my nails. They are exactly the same as they were before.
36 is a pretty young age to see bone loss. I really don't have any answers on absorbing calcium. Perhaps Darcy or Glen can help.
Good Luck!
Just to repeat some of what I had mentioned in the past; one of the main challenges with nails with ridges that break or tear easily is tied into low stomach acid and generally a HCL supplement will help but this could be a deeper digestive issue also.
I will also say that your particular health challenges require a deeper level of focus than is available on a forum. I would welcome you to experience a phone consult at the OWC or to contact a qualified natural health practitioner in your area.
