Hi Glen,

Sorry to be the hopeless neurotic, but I would like to know what to do if my cholestrol levels go up after doing this food plan.

I know that we should not listen to the "numbers" scams and the whole cholestrol game that is out there to sell us Lipitor, but I'm concerned that all the fat and meat could raise levels.  Should I not be worried? If the numbers are high..should I pay attention?

Hello Sharon,

You will only absorb approximately 15% of your nutritional cholesterol so I would not be concerned.  Since your body manufactures cholesterol based on needs this will be adjusted within your liver based on the amount of nutritional cholesterol.  I have seen some patients in the clinic occasionally have their cholesterol levels rise as they increase balance in their body nutritional but this is the bodies healing response.  As the body heals the cholesterol levels generally normalize.  Remember that cholesterol is essential to your health and your body has regulatory factors for this.

By the way have you been helped with Darcy since we've last communicated?  She is an incredible nutritionist!

The most important aspect is the HDL levels and the ratio.  Aiming for an HDL of 55 or above with an LDL of no more than two times the HDL would be optimal.  I would welcome you to visit www.mercola.com and do a search for cholesterol for a wealth of information.

Glen,

Thank you for such a quick response.   I am a 54 year old female and my last Cholesterol reading was:    HDL  70, LDL 271 and Triglycerides  56.  This was last February and my Doctor wanted me on Liptor but I refused since I had just taken the test and found out I was a protein type and wanted to give it a try.  However,  I took a new test today and I have a message to call my Doctor back  ASAP.  I really don't know what my options are.  I have been following the diet off and on the past year and  don't really want to go back to the old NO FAT diet that the doctors push.  The only thing that I haven't done at all is exercise and I know I should.  I  was on tyroid medication  but was off of it for two months before I took this last blood test yesterday.   Sorry for the long story .... I just want to get on the right track with this Cholesterol stuff before it is too late.

Hi Dorie,

I would have to say that the subject matter is beyond the scope of a forum and would suggest that you contact the clinic to set up a one on one consultation.  847.985.1777.  If that is not an option for you I would educate yourself as much as you can about cholesterol and the necessary functions within your body and the reasons why your body is producing this.  As I mentioned before there is so much information on this at www.mercola.com.  I have seen many protein types normalize cholesterol levels while on the protein type meal plan if that is of any comfort to you.

 Hello,

I just had a physical and the Dr said I am at risk for heart attack or stroke.I am a 66 year old, female..

I don't have the #'s in front of me but the overall # was 309. She sad the good cholesterol was good and the triglycerides were good but the bad cholesterol was way to high.

She wants me to work on eating properly, like no coconut or coconut oil, no butter, very little red meat etc. Then in 3 months come back and if not better go on drugs. I do NOT want to go on the drugs and get confused with the whole diet thing. HELP!!

Hello,

I would say that while I am not in agreement with your MD I have to say that the forum is not the place to address this.  If you are interested in a one on one phone consult for specific symptom challenges you can contact the OWC at 847.985.1777.

I would also welcome you to visit www.mercola.com and search cholesterol for some answers.

on 1-9-09 My Cholesterol was 272,  Triglycerides 125, LDL 178, HDL 69. The Dr said I should take meds to lower my Cholesterol Levels. I told him I wanted to try dietary changes.

A was eating 2 to 3 eggs, 2 pcs toast with about 2 tablespoons or more of butter on them, 12 oz coffee with it. I also was drinking 2 other cups of coffee a day at work and a 20 oz Pepsi.

I  swithched the eggs for oatmeal (The kind that takes 5 minuets to cook ) , and still eat the toast ( 12 grain bread ) with all that butter. I cut the 2 cups of coffee and Pepsi from my diet and added 2 bottles of water.

and

on 2-4-09 My Cholesterol was 237, Triglcerides 93, LDL144, HDL 74.  I am looking for a new Dr as the one I was seeing is to main stream medicine for me

With due regard to Glen's position, from experience, allow me to suggest that you do two things; firstly, remove where possible all the polyunsaturated fats from your diet which are renowned for suppressing the immunity; secondly, ramp-down on the intake of carbohydrates too which, among its various deleterious effects, it furrs the arteries in the presence of fat; the fat itself is not harmful, indeed, it is the body's fuel for energy. I recognise what is said by nutritional typing but I hold the view that everyone benefits from a diet that is low in carbs and high in saturated fats. The closer your diet is to this, the lower your cholesterol readings will be. Best to learn to keep control of your blood sugar levels than your blood pressure ones.
