Help! I just took the test and discovered I'm a protein type. During the week, I normally make a smoothie for breakfast, and drink it at work. I do not have time to whip up steak and eggs for breakfast, AND eat them in the morning! My smoothie has 1/4 cup ground flax seed, 1 T rice protein powder (dairy and I do not get along well) 2 egg yolks, 1 T coconut oil, 1 T almonds, 1 T walnuts, and 1 T pecans for protein sources. Also includes 1 cup frozen fruit, 1 oz pomegranite juice, 1 T gogi berries, 1 T green powder, and 1 cup water.
Cheers!
Dominique
I have a similar approach using a greens drink powder (Greens First), scoop of protein powder (24g protein) and three Tlbs flax seed. I consume my cocconut oil and fisk oil seperately.
My naturopathic doctor would recommend avoiding the frozen fruit and any fruit juices in my drink. The nuts and fat are all good. My greens powder packs the anti-oxidants from 10 servings of fruit and vegetables, so there no no added sugars that way.
This is a late reply, but I figure if I can come across this post months later and take a look, someone else also will. I love smoothies, but I am a protein type and a diabetic. I can guarantee you that no way will and entire cup of fruit, the fruit juice or that many dried goji berries work for me. I even struggle with the green powder. If I make a smoothie with lots of lettuce and chard it is too sweet and my blood sugar (good indicator of too many carbs) goes up.
However, I have come across a solution that has been a real help to me. I buy (and pick homegrown) fruit that is underripe, not yet sweet, but already fragrant - smells good. It still has lots of acids in it and few sugars - it doesn't taste that great, until I add the natural sweetener xylitol to it - using that, I can put that cup of fruit in a smoothie and add xylitol to taste. I can also can the fruit, make jam, make pies and cobblers, even fruit leather, without budging my blood sugar. Not everyone can use xylitol successfully - and other sugar alcohols may be a problem - maltitol, widely used in so-called sugar free candy, raises my blood sugar. But xylitol and erythritol do not. Try it. If it works for you, you have a great solution for the smoothie problem. Using sweet fruit and juice is not going to work for us protein types.
The truth shall set you free.
I am a protein type as well and here is a shake that I like to consume post workout:
7-8 oz full fat coconut milk
1 TBSP coconut oil
1 TBSP raw honey
1-2 raw eggs
1 heaping scoop goatein protein powder
1 cup fresh or frozen fruit (I use either pineapple, papaya, berries, or banana)
Also, a few ounces of water is sometimes additionally added depending on how smooth I want the texture.
This is a template that I have been using for a while. Feel free to add flax oil or seeds to it as well.
