What are your suggestions for eliminating constipation while following a protein-type diet? This was not an issue when I was a vegetarian. I cannot take any product with physillium husk due to trigeminal neuralgia. Two tablespoons flaxseed are included daily in my diet and fruit is limited to 1 or 2 servings daily. Thanks!

Something that I recommend on a regular basis is to mix ground flax seed with ground walnuts and add some olive oil to make it a paste like substance.  Take a teaspoon of this after your meals gradually increasing it to one tablespoon after meals.

If this does not work for you please contact me through the forum again and we can go another route.

Good Health,

Glen,

I tried the paste mixer with flax seeds, walnuts and olive oil,  but it did not work.  Do you have any other suggestions?  I have been taking a high dose of magnesium and also take a probiotic.

Thanks!

Let me address some lifestyle treatments for constipation.  One of the two biggest overlooked aspects of constipation is lack of exercise and dehydration.  We need to move to keep our intestinal track moving which used to happen when human beings walked everywhere.  I guess you can say that a side effect of the automobile is constipation.  As far as the water is concerned make sure that you are getting approximately one quart of water for every 50lbs. of body weight.

The exercise will also help by lowering any stress and anxiety.  Stress and anxiety will actually cut down on the blood flow to your digestive tract which will impede your bowel movements.

Keep me updated on your progress.

Good Health,

Glen ND

Glen, I agree the water is really critical but for me was not the whole answer.  I am a protein type and have had constipation problems since childhood.

I stumbled onto the solution to my problem after doing the Dr. Schulze cleanse about 10 years ago I decided to keep using his Intestinal Formula #1.  It kept me going beautifully and I thought "why stop?".  At any rate I took one with dinner for a couple years and then my bowels became a bit looser until finally I opened the capsule into another one and took 1/2 each night for a few weeks.  Since that time I have not needed anything other than my regular water.  I'd bought Dr. Batmanghelidg's book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" a few years previously thinking it would solve my problem.  Yes, I did need the sea salt but because I'd been a runner for many years I already was drinking plenty of water daily.  If I am travelling and don't get my water then yes, it will affect the consistency of the stool and I do take my bottle of Intestinal Formula #1 with just in case.  No I haven't used it in years, other than during my regular cleanses.  His site is www.herbdoc.com, but be warned he is a vegetarian and pretty "raw" and offensive to many folks.  Great products and great cleansing sytem though.

Thanks for the info fbl!!  I also have had constipation problems most my life and have tried everything to relieve it.  Some things will work for a while and then I get constipated again.  I drink plenty of water, exercise everyday, eat for my MT and eat most my veggies raw (can't quite get the raw meat to go down yet), and I still have problems.  I went to Dr. Schulze's web page and ordered his intestinal formula #1, I will let you know how it goes.

Norma,
If you are often constipated and are doing all the corect things like drinking water and exercising then i suggest that you explore how applying EFT to the problem works.
ask yourself 'what am i not letting go of?' a feeling? a relationship? an idea? what is it about my life that is stuck?
just a thought and worth a try

I would also like to add that "letting go" is the main emotion generally tied into the colon.

Constipation can  also be caused by sympathetic nervous system overactivity or dominanace. Listen to relxing music while eating, meditate 30 min-1 hour daily, try bodyweight squats as well. Anything that stimulates a fight or flight or "SNS" responce in the body will lead to poor digestion and constipation. In my case i noticed that ejaculation cause a ton of horrible symptoms including constipation. I finally figured out why, ejaculation stimulates the fight or flight responce leading to excess cortisol release shuting down digestion. Whenever I use to ejaculate it caused acne, constipation, insomnia and fatigue. Try reducing sex as well as learing some energy building exercises in " how to eat more and be healthy, by Paul chek. That book is in my opinion the best health book ever created. Standing meditation is simply amazing for your health. Since practicing the energy tecniques in in Paul chek,s books as well as other great books, I've learned to controll and balance my ANS Autonomic Nervous System with breathing, certain exercises and liftstyle changes, all which help constipation . Last but not least avoid emotional overeating, I use to eat chicken thighs by the pack, they were so good crispy with sea salt it was like an addiction, you must learn to avoid overting and if that means temporary eliminating some of your favorite foods untill you learn self controll than thats what you have to do. I noticed that if I eat chicken thighs I could eat 3-6 at once, however when i eat wild alaskan fish my body told me to stop eating at 3 oz. That right there led me to learn that i was emotionally overeating the thighs. Good luck
