G'day from Oz. My 40 yr old daughter has been almost perpetually menstruating for app 12 months. She has an IUD which I wonder may be adding to the trobles? She has a healthy active lifestyle, but an hysterectomy has been advised. To delay/prevent this she is booked for surgery to laser her womb lining off. Is there no better alternative...eg one that isolates WHY & treats THAT abnormality. Advice appreciated. Thank you.

Has she had an ultrasound done on her uterus?

I've checked back several times and have found no reply from you. I may have an answer for you but need more information about her symptoms. If you are still concerned email me. I'm moving on for now. Best of luck to her.

Hello again,
Thank you so much for staying in touch. Between my daughter being difficult to contact at times, & our international time differences I have been late in responding I'm sorry.
She has been bleeding since Feb this year. Initially had fainting & was put on iron supplement. She has a Marina IUD which was supposed to help reduce the bleeding &/or stabilise. It has only marginally reduced the bleeding. The ultrasound revealed no fibroids but a thickening of the uteral lining, & her ovaries are fine. She gave birth to one child 14 years ago. She is a tiny woman & after 15 hrs labour a cesarean was performed during which an artery was cut. She had a pretty bad time of it then. The baby was 9lbs & she is only 5'2'' & quite petite. 'Middle age' (40) has seen her with a little more weight but within normal boundaries. The current 'specialist' reports the problem is 'due to your age'. (?) Also her Grandmother had cervical cancer at age 71 just before she passed away from other indications. She suffered dementia for the last 7 years of her life.
My daughter said today that she thinks she can identify a cycle of sorts in between the other bleeding. Her latest one saw her very highly emotional on what she believed to be the first day of a cycle, with heavy bleeding. She said it was undoubtedly hormonal, plus becoming overwhelmed with the situation. She continues to highly achieve in her profession & is a single Mum buying her own property. She has a loving partner now, (live out).
She is quite heath conscious & exercises etc but is a very busy young woman & somewhat intense. She does meditation & has a very good positive/spiritual outlook. I would so appreciate your input as I can't see how lasering her womb lining eliminates the actual source of the problem.

Many thanks again.

Dear AussieBard1,

When I read your last post, I just had to respond.  I too had abnormal menstrual bleeding which would last 8-10 days every period.  I had this from the time I was 40 to 45 years old, because I couldn't get anyone to listen to me.  One doctor prescribed birth control pills, but there was no change.  Another doctor did a DNC to clean my uterus of fibroids, but they grew back a year later.  I finally went to a fertility specialist who told me that because I had not had children for many years (my daughter was 18), the lining of my uterus had thickened (2.5 cm!)  Unfortunately, I had to leave that practice because they no longer took my insurance, so I took my records to a female OB/GYN that a friend had recommended.  My new GYN told me that to prevent a hysterectomy, she recommended cauterizing (like a burning procedure) my uterine lining.   My ovaries were fine too (like your daughter's).  After five years of this mess, I agreed to have the procedure.  At this point, I wasn't concerned with the cause, I just wanted the bleeding to go away because I was extremely anemic, which made me very tired and was affecting my quality of life as well as my career.  The procedure took only 45 minutes and I was put under an anesthetic.  I recovered in two days with no aches or pains.  I have not had a period since!  I can tell each month when I'm supposed to have one because I have tenderness in my breasts, an occasional backache, and a little bit of clear discharge.   It has been 1 1/2 years since the procedure and I have never felt better!  I'm not ruining my clothing or my bedding and my relationship with my boyfriend has been wonderful.   I have two friends that also had the procedure done and they got the same result - NO MORE PERIODS.  The pamphlet for the procedure said if you go 90 days without any spotting or bleeding, then the procedure worked.  The uterine lining will not grow back.  I highly, highly recommend it!

Hello, I believed the advice they gave is very good, but I wonder if you have to wait or not. Because recently my friend show me a new product that has helped thousands of women with many kinds of problems during menstruation. It is a sanitary napkin that has an extremely fine strip inserted inside the napkin. This strip has three technologies incorporated into it: negative ions, far infrared, and magnetism. and It has many benefits for health and a few women have reported that their menstruation has been regulated in terms of their time and also in the amount of blood. A few times a little more blood than usual comes out for one day but then stabilizes immediately. The napkin helped me with a problem I had but nothing I have heard so far compares to what you describe concerning your daughter. One special benefit that this napkin has is that the negative ion play a function in preventing the growth and multiplication of bacteria in the napkin. We women are ignorant regarding how unsafe are the regular sanitary napkins that we normally use. Because they are made in part from recycle paper and have other synthetic components that cause rash and infections to many women. But what is worst and I would like very much Dr. Mercola to place something concerning this issue in his website, because it is a concern for women's health, is that most sanitary pads are made or bleached with chlorine compounds that contain trace of the organochlorine- dioxin, a carcinogens. A Dioxin website says: In addition to cancer, exposure to dioxin can also cause severe reproductive and developmental problems (at levels 100 times lower than those associated with its cancer causing effects). Dioxin is well-known for its ability to damage the immune system and interfere with hormonal systems.

Sorry to bother with all of this but maybe if you are going to wait before operating your daughter maybe you can try using these napkins to see if they can help in any way. At least if you have to wait for the operation your daughter do not have to use napkins that might be intensifying her condition. I am more than willing to send you a couple of packages in the hope that it can help your daughter. I can send you for free because I bought many packages for me and my three daughters. Whatever you decide I hope that your daughter can find prompt relieve from her problem.
