I've been reading a lot over the last couple of weeks and have been learning tons.  One of the things I've come across is Glens recommendation on using glass cookware even over enamel(which I totally agree with).  I almost bought a set of enamel pans, but held off because of the price (I almost had to sell off a kidney to purchase them).  Thank goodness I did not, because the more I read the more I thought glass was the way to go.  Anyway, the point of this is if anyone is interested in glass cookware you can go to ebay and put in a search for 'glass pans' and you come with all kind of nice stuff. You can purchase one thing at a time or some sets, so you try them out before you buy lots of stuff to see if you like them.  I bought some and I love it.  I won't cook on anything else.

Thank you for the tip Briana...I never would have thought of ebay.

I have read about the dangers of lead in much of the glass items.  Is this a really worry?
Also, what about brakage?  I have two, a 6 yr old and a 7 yr old, up and comming cooks at my house.  They love to help and at the very least do dishes with me.

Hello Sandy,

I would not be concerned with the glass and generally the glass is very thick and not very easy to break.  I still see it as the best cooking option available.

I am assuming that you don't feel that the possiblility of lead in the glass is an issue?
Also, how do you know if your stainless steel is at a safe level of nickle.  I have med. priced cuisinart pots and pans and $20+ jelly roll pans that I use for cookies and bars.

Hi Sandy,

You are correct that I am not concerned about the lead in glass.  As far as the stainless is concerned you can take a magnet and try to stick it to the side of the pan and if it sticks it contains too much nickle.  A magnet will not stick to a quality stainless steel pan.  Also make sure you are trying this on the side and not the bottom as many pans have an aluminum insert to dispearse heat more efficiently.  Hopefully this helps.

Hi Glen,
I did the magnet test with my cook ware and most did not stick.  The problem I have is I am sure that my cook ware has aluminum core all the way to the top.  I did that because it does heat more efficently and is totally covered with SS.  Also there really is not much out there for glass pots of any size.  I think the biggest I found was 3 1/2 qt. I use my 4 and 6 qt pots almost daily for veg and preparing milk for making yogart.
Also what is your take on the stone ware.  Is it safe for baking?
Sorry I am so full of questions but I have been on this journey for so many years and it seems like about the time I think I have it figured out I read another article by some one and away I go again.  LOL

Hello Sandy,

I have not used stoneware myself and since I do not know much about it I do not want to make a recommendation.  I have pasted a link here for you where Dr. Mercola made a comment on stoneware.

Hi Sandy,

Your right there is not much out there for glass cookware.  The best place is ebay.  You can buy one piece at a time so you can try it out.  I love mine, it took me a little while to get used to them because they do not cook the same at traditional metal pans.  You have to coat it with something sometimes to keep things from sticking, but not always.  I use the greatest non-stick stuff on the planet called Dr. Fife's non stick cooking oil.  It's made with organic coconut oil and lecithin, nothing sticks to this stuff.  You can also whip some up of your own.  Take some coconut oil and a little bit of lecithin and mix them very well and put in a glass container in your fridge.  If you mix your own you'll know it's right when you ge at butter color. Also it's very hard to break them.  I've banged them together, dropped them, you name it and not even a chip.  Hope this is helpful
