Helo everyone. I am a 16 year old male with type 1 diabetes living in Canada. I recently became very keen to vanilla Soy Milk , and I find my self drinking about half a carton a day.I recently did a search online to see if Soy Milk had any dangers, and I found alot of things, which made it very confusing to find an answer. I also saw Dr.Mercolas video on youtube about the dangers of Soy.

I am not so much concerned as how it will effect me as a diabetic as to how it will effect me in general. Obviously, half a carton is not generally considered "drinking in moderation". So my main questions are..

What is the REAL scoop on Soy Milk.. How will it effect my health in general?
How much is too much?
I have read that there is an estrogen mimicing hormone. Will this stunt my growth at all, or even (this may be a stupid question), cause fat to grow in my chest area?
I have also read that Soy Milk lowers sperm count. If it does indeed do this, how big is the effect, and could this potentially destroy my chances of having children in the future?

Thanks,
Taylor.

Consumption of cow's milk is so damaging to human health, that almost anything would be a better alternative. And there are so many wonderful plant-based alternatives available today, one needn't be limited to any single one of them. Here in the U.S., we even have a milk beverage made from coconuts called So Delicious. If you're ever in the States, I encourage you to try it. It's incredible!

But what about soy? There has been so much soy-bashing in the media, even here on Dr. Mercola's site. The most well-thought-out response I've seen to all of this comes from John Robbins, author of the ground-breaking books, Diet for A New America and Healthy at 100. I think he really puts things in persepctive in his article, "What About Soy?" which you can read here: http://www.foodrevolution.org/what_about_soy.htm

Have you ever read about the process necessary to turn the inedible soybean into soymilk? It is incredibly bitter and needs a lot of processing with chemicals to eliminate most of the objectionable taste. Then it is doctored with sugar and other flavourings to make it palatable. The result is a highly processed food item that is nowhere near its original natural state. I highly recommend reading Dr. Kaayla Daniels' The Whole Soy Story. If you can't get a copy of it, I suggest going to her website and reading excerpts from the book there.

My daughter is highly allergic to processed cow's milk, and I have been giving her raw milk for five years with absolutely no problems whatsoever. It was reading Dr. Mercola that led me to try raw milk for her.
